Plumeria are some of nature's most exotic and beautiful plants.  Over the years they have become world famous for their association with the Far East, Africa and the beautiful Hawaiian Islands.  Steeped in tradition, Plumeria is the actual flower used to make beautiful garlands or leis, which are given in friendship to visitors on arrival in the islands.

Plumerias are deciduous small trees or shrubs. During the plant’s dormant period, which coincides with the drought season in its native landscape, Plumeria drops its leaves. It needs little to no care at all during dormancy until the plant begins another growth cycle.

Their main sensitivity is to cold and wet weather. This can potentially damage the plant’s root system, which is susceptible to fungal root rots that thrive in cool, damp conditions.

Leaf Formation
Plumeria leaves are long and ovate with generally rounded but occasionally slightly pointed tips. They are heavily veined and have a shiny, waxy heaviness.

These leaves are brilliant green and grow in clusters that form at the ends of the newest branches. The growth habit gives this tropical plant a palm-like appearance.

Plumeria Flowers
Plumeria flowers are the star attraction, blooming in clusters with attractive star-shaped petals.

All our Plumeria are easy to grow & bloom and require only minimal care and attention. They simply need a warm, well-lit spot in a conservatory, or home and exposure to as much sun as you can offer.  A little water and some high-phosphorus plant food.

Our Plumeria seedlings are approximately 2 years old, 10-15cm tall and may bloom in 2-3 years. They come potted in a 16cm pot with full instructions, all ready to be placed and cared for.  Not all grow true to their parent but are very easy to look after, fascinating to behold and do make truly unique gifts.

Here are some tips for looking after your plumeria plant:

  1. Watering: Plumerias prefer well-draining soil, with a slightly acidic ph.  it's important not to overwater them. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, and be sure not to let the soil become waterlogged.
  2. Sunlight: Plumerias require a lot of sunlight to bloom, so it's important to place them in a spot that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight every day. You may need to move your plant around throughout the day to ensure it's getting enough sun.
  3. Fertilising: Plumerias benefit from regular fertilizing during the growing season (spring and summer), particularly with a high phosphorus fertilizer to encourage blooming.

(Please note plumerias are not edible and care should be taken when pruning/potting on as they produce a milky sap which may irritate your skin.)
